Developing a Whole-School Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing in Virtual Schools

By: Jessica Parker

In Virtual Schools, supporting the mental health and well-being of students is essential to their academic success and personal development. Many children in care, previously in care, or with social care involvement face unique emotional challenges that require a proactive, whole-school approach to mental health.

Masterclass Overview

This course explores how Virtual Schools can embed mental well-being into every aspect of their support framework, ensuring that students, staff, and families feel safe, valued, and supported. Participants will learn how to reduce stigma, create a culture of openness, and equip staff with the confidence and skills to respond effectively to mental health needs.

The session will also cover practical strategies for integrating well-being into the Virtual School’s curriculum, policies, and daily interactions. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening collaboration with parents, carers, social workers, and external mental health services, ensuring a coordinated and sustainable approach to supporting young people’s emotional resilience and long-term well-being.

Learning Outcomes
